The Light Daily Devotional – The Merciful Consuming Fire

Focus: The Merciful Consuming Fire

The fact that God is merciful does not change the fact that He is also a consuming fire. In everything you do; don’t forget to reverence and serve God with godly awe!

Scriptural Reference: “For our God is a consuming fire.”

(Hebrew 12:29 NKJV)

The God we serve is a merciful God. His Mercy is so great that it is enough to cover a life’s time iniquity. His mercy is the reason behind the peace, prosperity and success wicked men appear to have. However, the preservation of wicked men is tailored towards destruction if they will not repent.

There is no other way a man can deceive himself other than boasting on the fact that despite his sins and wickedness things still appear to be working perfectly. Don’t take the grace and mercy of God for granted. Despite being a merciful God, He is still a consuming fire. Do your best to serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

Eli said “If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him?” (1 Samuel  2:25). When God declares His judgement, it is always deadly and irreversible. Honour God with your life and decisions.

Question For Meditation: In what way are you taking God’s mercy for granted?

Prayer Point: Lord! I receive the grace to serve you acceptably with reverence and godly fear in Jesus name. Amen.

Main Emphasis: The God who delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians is still the one who killed several of them in the wilderness on the account of their sins.
